CAPOEIRA BERIBAZU AUSTRALIAWe're an incorporated not-for-profit association created to teach and disseminate the Afro-Brazilian art-form of Capoeira. We're a part of Group Beribazu, founded in Brazil in 1972.
Our group started its activities in Australia in 2011 where it is represented by our Group Beribazu qualified instructors, Contra-Mestre Pequeno (Paulo Vinicius), Professora Déia (Andréia), and Monitor Papagaio. Their work is supervised by Mestre Falcão, who is based in Brazil but travels to Brisbane frequently to attend gradings and share his knowledge with our group here. We're a Bronze Member of Martial Arts Australia, which is the Peak Industry Body that supports martial arts instructors and schools in Australia. |

HISTORY OF GROUP BERIBAZU
Group Beribazu was created in August 11, 1972 in Brasília, the capital of Brazil, by Mestre Zulu. It follows the ideology that capoeira should always be intimately connected to its cultural roots, aiming at the development of the practiser not only from a body and fight activity but also from the musical, historical and cultural perspectives.
Following the motto "Arte-Luta" (Art-Fight), Group Beribazu seeks to overcome the division between Capoeira Angola and Capoeira Regional, trying to promote capoeira comprehensively, by respecting, acknowledging, and playing all of its facets.
Since its start in Brasília, the group has grown and can now be found all over Brazil. And starting from the beginning of the 1990's, it has expanded its activities to several countries such as Argentina, Poland, Italy, United States, Switzerland, and more recently (since 2011) Australia. In total, the group currently has over 200 capoeira teachers, among mestres, contra-mestres, instrutores, monitores and estagiários.
The Statute that guides the group can be found here (in Portuguese).
