CAPOEIRA FOR TEENS & ADULTS
Our teens & adults classes are suitable for people from 12 years of age. During our classes you will experience all the different elements that form the practice capoeira.
During the class, the different aspects of capoeira are practiced in a segmented way, allowing students to build a ‘tool box or repertoire’ of capoeira movements. It is then during the roda that capoeiristas get to practice their learnings by playing with another person and fitting in the movements they learned in an improvised fashion. A typical class usually includes:
- Stretching/warm-up
- Capoeira drills such as ginga, kicks, acrobatics or ‘floreios’, take-downs ‘desequilibrantes’
- Learning and playing different music instruments: berimbau, pandeiro, atabaque and agogô.
- Learning and singing different capoeira songs and understanding their significance/meaning.
- Practice of the capoeira game in pairs.
- Strengthening, conditioning and flexibility exercises.
- Discussions about Capoeira history, rituals and traditions.
- ‘Roda’ or circle, where all the elements of capoeira are put in action and you play in pairs.

I joined Capoeira Beribazu at the end of 2015 with no knowledge of Capoeira whatsoever. Training with Capoeira Beribazu I have learned many aspects such as music, acrobatics, martial arts and a little of Portuguese. Capoeira, as a Brazilian martial art, has influenced my life positively and I have integrated many aspects of Brazilian culture in everyday life. Beribazu is a more than a group, where everyone is welcome and included.
